Reminder over vehicle security

Posted on October 11 2012

Police are reminding residents to keep their valuables out of sight following a number of car thefts. There have been more than 30 thefts from vehicles throughout the area since the start of October, which includes the districts of North East Derbyshire, Bolsover, Chesterfield and Amber Valley.

Community Safety Inspector Russ Dakin said: “It is really important that motorists check that they’ve locked their cars and removed any valuable items such as sat-navs, mobile phones and laptops on display. This can really help reduce the risk of their vehicle being broken into.

“We would also ask that anyone who may have seen anything suspicious, or with information about these incidents or any crime in the area, to contact us.”

Other advice for car owners includes parking in a busy, well-lit area, or in a secure garage and fitting and using car alarms or other security devices such as one way number plate screws.

Anyone with any information about these incidents or crime in the area should contact Derbyshire police on 101, the non emergency number, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
