Proposed solar farm at Averill Farm

Posted on March 05 2015

Lightsource Renewable Energy Limited is in the process of assessing a site in the area for a 5 megawatts solar farm. Lightsource describe themselves as one of the UK’s leading solar energy generators, operating a variety of solar farms across the country, working with local communities and landowners to generate green energy locally and sustainably.

The proposed site is located at Averill Farm. The extent of the site is shown in the information pack. They are at a preliminary stage in the proposal and are carrying out a series of technical assessments including Landscape and Visual, Heritage, Flood Risk and Ecology. Their view is that the site provides an excellent opportunity for a solar farm development, as it is well screened from surrounding residential areas and footpaths by the extensive vegetation adjacent to the site. The proposed development also seeks to improve foraging, sheltering and resting opportunities throughout the whole year for a range of wildlife, through enhanced planting and subsequent sensitive management regimes.

They intend on holding a Community Information evening on the 25th March at Morton Village Hall between 17.30 and 20.00, in order to present their initial proposals and gather local feedback.
