Police are appealing for witnesses after two men tried to use distraction burglary tactics to steal valuables from an elderly woman in Tibshelf.

The 91-year-old victim was at home in Hawthorne Avenue when she was visited by the offenders at about 8.30pm on Saturday, April 18.

One of the men said he was from a water company and needed to check water pressure in the address due to an explosion in the area.

The victim let the man in and, shortly afterwards, noticed the second man in the property as well.

She challenged the men and they left. It is not thought that anything was stolen.

The first man was white, between 20 and 30, about 5ft 5ins, with a round face and of average build. The second man was slightly taller and older, but no further description was available.

Police investigating the offence want to hear from anyone who may have seen the two men in the area or received similar calls.

Witnesses or anyone with information should call Derbyshire police on 101, quoting crime reference 16190/15. You can also call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
