Have you been inspired to have a go at running after watching this year’s London marathon?

Well, if you have you will be pleased to know the Morton Fun Run is returning after last year’s break to celebrate its tenth running.

This year’s event will take place on Sunday June 21st, the morning before the village gala, and will be centred on New St playing field where the gala will be held afterwards.

The Fun Run consists of two events, the Morton Challenge and the Mini Challenge.

Morton Challenge

The Morton Challenge is a 5 km off road trail run consisting of two 2.5km laps that follow the trail around the colliery mound, a loop through Colliery Wood before the challenging bit of the run…the steep climb up the mound. Once up onto the top the run circles the top of the mound before dropping back onto the playing field, a short lop through the wood and around school field before beginning another lap.

The Challenge is open to runners aged 12 and over. Prizes will be awarded to the first male and female, first Morton male and female, first veteran male and female (40+) and first junior male and female (under 18). Entry fee is £5 per runner (£3 under 16).

Mini Challenge

The Mini Challenge is a family orientated 1 mile event run over two half mile laps. It is flat, all off road and follows a grass and trail path mostly in view of the playing field so you will get plenty of encouragement from family and friends watching!

This is open to all runners aged 6 and over, it’s not just for the kiddies, it is open to all the family so if you are new to running and fancy a challenge then feel free to enter.

Entry fee is £2 per runner
