Derbyshire Lives Research Project - Living through the World Wars in Derbyshire

Posted on January 30 2013

The Derbyshire Lives research project aims to look at the experiences of local people living through the world wars in Derbyshire.

With the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War approaching the Derbyshire Lives project will gather stories not only of Derbyshire people’s military involvement but also shine a light on experiences on the home front.

Funded by the Arts Council and being researched by Bright Ideas on behalf of the council, the project will gather and share the stories through social media. They will use a blog and the mircro-blogging platform Twitter to connect communities, businesses and individuals in sharing how the county is commemorating the centenary and other important anniversaries including the 75 years since the outbreak of World War Two.

Bright Ideas described how they will be searching through local museums, libraries and archives as part of their research.

They’ll also be encouraging local people to get in touch with them and share their own stories about how their families, businesses, homes or land played a part in the war. They’d like people to share photographs, diaries, letters and other memorabilia that can form a picture of Derbyshire during wartime.
