The next meeting of the newly launched Neighbourhood Watch Scheme will be held in Morton Village Hall on Thursday 16th February at 7.30pm.
Police in North East Derbyshire are reminding residents not to advertise their home to burglars during dark winter evenings. The advice comes after a number of opportunist break-ins at houses that were left in darkness or with insecurities.
A theft of a motorbike (registration YP02LHV) occurred on New Street, Morton, on Sunday 22nd January between 3.30pm & 4.40pm.
18 January 2012 – Please be aware that there have been several burglaries in surrounding villages, where the burglars appear to be targetting houses where the occupiers appear to be out (no lights on during the evening).
Police are advising motorists across Derbyshire not to leave their vehicles unattended while defrosting. Drivers should be on their guard against so called ‘frost-jackers’ as the temperatures start to drop to prevent unnecessary thefts.

This is a reminder about distraction burglary where a falsehood, trick or distraction is used to gain access to a property to commit burglary. This comes after two distraction burglaries in Chesterfield on Tuesday 15th November where the callers claimed to be dealing with blocked drains.
Friends of the School are holding a Christmas Shopping Evening on Thursday 24th of November 7pm – 9pm in Morton Village Hall.
An informal meeting is to be held in Morton Village Hall on 21st November at 11am to discuss setting up a Morton walking club. Please attend of you are interested in joining a walking club. If you would like to have a light lit in memory of a loved one, please fill in one of the cards and this will be tied to a light which will be hung up outside Church to remind us of our loved ones at Christmas. The lights will be switched on at the Carol Service on Sunday, December 11th.
